In this chapter, we learn that xia has been addicted to the blood of Bai Ling, and that he has even lost his mind because of it. We learn that the reason for xia's "blood dependence" was that he was "too hungry" to eat, and he was bitten by a "monster" that was "inhuman" and "unfriendly." We also learn that his mother warned him against playing with the monster, and now that he's recovered, xia is "really happy this time" .
