The Duke of Alypse invites his son to the ball, but the boy is disappointed to find that his father is not there. He tells his father that he would love to meet his daughter-in-law, but that she has changed since they last saw each other. He asks his father if he can find a magic sword, and the boy exclaims that it is a "master level food" . The boy wonders if the ringmaster and elva know about him, and he wonders if they are worried about him. He wonders if there is a spell bead in the room that they could use to take them to the kingdom of lions, but he does not know how to use it
