In this chapter, Desdemona's father, Percival, reveals to his grandson that he has set up a ritual in which he will kill his son. When he hears that his son has been killed, he realizes that he is the one who was ordered to perform the ritual. He tells his grandson to remember his face in his last moments of life. When the two men enter the room, they are shocked to find that the dead have been killed by a mysterious attacker. When they realize that the attacker is none other than the man who tried to kill their father, they both realize that they are the ones who have been ordered to execute their son.
