This chapter's epigraph is from a poem by Edgar Allan Poe, which was published in 1899. In the poem, Edgar says that he has succumbed to the influence of the "meat ghoul" and that he is unable to defeat either of them. He says that the only way for him to defeat the meat ghoul is to use his "soul power" , which is the power to transform one's body into another's. The poem ends with Edgar saying that he will get the goddess of justice to "find more threatening monsters" for Edgar to kill.
