About This Chapter
It's lunch time at the theater, and the director asks the assistant stage manager if it's necessary to interrupt the girl's break to thank her for her hard work. The assistant tells the director that she's learned a lot in the last few days, and that she needs to step up her game in front of the audience. She tells the assistant that she has always wanted to be a light designer, but that she hasn't always been able to do it because she has a "mood" that's "more stable" . The director asks her what's wrong, and she apologizes for being so angry the last time she came to see the play. She admits that she got angry because she didn't get a chance to ask the girl to dinner or drink. She's sorry, she says, because she knows how hard it can be to change people's minds, and to see things in a different way. She apologizes again for not asking the girl for a drink, and says that she was just jealous that she doesn't have the opportunity to ask him for a date. She adds that she had been thinking about it for a while, and it was not as hard as she thought it would be to figure out that he's in love with her.
