About This Chapter
In this chapter, the young narrator tells his friend that he has told him not to call him "dessert like this" and not to "do whatever you want." He tells the boy that he is free to do whatever he wants with whatever time he has. He tells him that he lied to his parents and said that he was seeing someone so that they would stop nagging him. He says that if he had not bumped into him, he would have done what he did if he hadn't. He asks the boy if he has time next week to drop him off at his house. The young narrator says that he will accept the offer as a "token of my appreciation." He says he will let it go if the promise is a token of his appreciation. The two of them watch a movie together and eat together before, but they haven't eaten together in a while. The boy says that the mood of the evening shifted when he saw that the young man's arms were "more muscular" than he thought they would be. He worries that if the boy is not married material, he won't be able to dismiss his parents' concerns about him.
