About This Chapter
In this short scene, the young narrator, who has just returned from a night out with a group of friends, muses on the beauty of his complexion and the eyelashes that he has just seen. He asks the friend where he is going, and the friend tells him that he is on his way to meet a new friend. The young narrator feels that he must tell the friend everything that has happened to him, and he tells the friend that if he calls her now, she will "always suck" . He tells her that he will tell her everything and that she will always "sucks" , and she sighs and says that it must have been a dream. He then asks if she thinks she is fooling him. She replies that she does, and they go off to buy some music. The narrator asks if he has time to apologize to the friend in person, but the friend says that he does not have time to do so. He says he would like to apologize later, but he is afraid that the friend will think he is just picking flowers for her. The girl says that she has never thought of him as a romantic, but she asks him if she can make an appointment with him even though she feels that she is close to him. He replies that it has been too long since he has been in love with her, and asks her if she has ever thought about him in such a romantic way
