In this chapter, we learn that the narrator has set up a "blind date" for the girl at a hotel in New York City. The narrator asks the girl why she broke up with her boyfriend, and the girl explains that she's turning 30, and she doesn't want to marry because her parents don't approve of men who aren't "good enough" for her. She's also worried about whether or not she'll ever be able to "escape being a woman" , and she wonders if the girl's boyfriend knows that she has "their under pressure" .
