About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that the manager is nowhere to be found, and that she's worried that he's been drinking too much. She's also worried about what's going to happen to the relationship between her and the manager. She asks the man if he can reassure her that everything's fine. The man says that he just got back from a few days in Europe, so he doesn't know what to say. The narrator says that she can love the man and be faithful, but she knows that she has to tell the manager right away. He asks if the manager seems off lately, and the narrator tells him that she seems to be working harder than ever. He says that the woman is always hard-working, but he can't figure out how to get used to this. He tells the narrator that it's okay to be stressed out, but that he shouldn't let the woman go on like that. He thinks that the two of them are opposites, and he wonders if they're in love.
