About This Chapter
In this short scene, the young heroine is introduced to the director of a cooking school, who introduces himself as "senpai" , or "son of senpai." She explains that she is the daughter of a pastry maker who survived an accident. The pastry maker was known as "nanase" and "kaori" . The director introduces her to the other students at the school and asks her about her family history. She tells him that her parents died when she was a child, and that she survived the accident by making traditional pastries. She is now a junior high school student and has won the "western confectionary competition" and is considered the favorite to be the country's top pastry chef. The girl wonders why all the papers are talking about her like she is a "damsel in distress" and why her father has been caught in the public eye. She says that she does not want to be a part of the story and that the school is not going to use her as a spokesperson for it. She asks the director if he would like to hear her out. He says that he would, but that he wants her to become a "pawn" for the "jerk" who is using her to gain publicity. She replies that she just wants to be heard out. She wants the director to know that she loves cooking and wants to treasure her parents' dream. She also wants to show him how she feels about the crepes she is making. The crepes are very difficult to make, she says, but the pastry maker made them for her.
