The next morning, Lin ruzhen shows up at the teahouse. He's there to treat his mother, who's been shot in the arm. Lin's mother doesn't seem to care at all, and she's not even paying attention to her sister, who is seriously injured. Lin tries to get her to tell the truth about what happened, but she can't. She's afraid that the shopkeepers at the opposite end of the building will be offended by what she says, so she tells the truth herself.
