In this chapter, we learn that the "most efficient guy" at the university was away at the time of the attack, and that he was the one who assigned him to the hospital in Japan. When the professor returns, he apologizes for not being there to save the lives of the victims. The professor says that he had to stay in the hospital to save people, but that he cannot believe that he failed to stop the attack. He tells the professor that the hospital has found some symptoms on the victims that are not typical of an ordinary hospital. The hospital is short on staff, and another batch of patients has been sent to the university.
