The scene opens with a soliloquy by the Governess, in which she tells the audience that she has made up her mind about what she wants to do with the rest of her life. She says that she is going to drink poisoned liquor and "start my next life" . The Governess asks the audience to be ready for "the next scene" , and the audience agrees with her. She then asks if they can have a drink together when she is free, and they agree to do so. She tells him that she knows a good bar where she can get a good drink, and he agrees to take her there after the shooting is over. He tells her that he is surprised that the actor is unable to drink because he is "severely allergic" to alcohol, but that he still invited her to a bar with him. He asks her if she will go with him to the bar with the actor, and she says yes, and that she would like to see what the actor was up to. She asks if he is plotting against her, and if she got into a theater situation again, she knows what the consequence would be. He is interested in her, she tells him, and so he has to be at the Green Top Bar.
