In this short scene, the audience is introduced to a number of characters who are introduced for the first time in the play. The first person introduced is Hu, who introduces himself as "Mr. Reng" , and the second person introduces himself is "Tianqing" . The audience learns that Hu's daughter is a painter and that she loves to paint. When Hu asks if he likes the painting, the first person says that he does not know much about art, and that he agreed to meet his daughter because she is so different from him. The second person asks if Hu likes the painter's style, and he says that the painting is "bold and vigorous" and that the painter must have a fiery heart. The third person then asks if the painter is a quiet guy, and Hu says he must be a "quiet guy" with a "fiery heart." The fourth person then tells the audience that because of the "blue sky" incident, the director has decided to edit out Hu and replace her with someone else. The woman, however, has been trying to get money for the painting ever since.
