The scene opens with a private conversation between the two of them. The two are waiting for each other outside the hotel. The young woman asks her brother if he thinks she should accept the part of a prostitute in a new production of "The Emperor's New Clothes." The young man tells her that he is an ambitious person who wants to be famous, but he is more concerned with his pride than his ambition. He tells his brother that he will refuse the part because he does not want to give up his "earned things" to maintain his "innocence."
