The chapter ends with a soliloquy by hagusa, in which he laments the fact that he has to find his father. He asks the crow to tell him where his father is. The crow tells him that his mother has sent money to her estranged husband for years, and that she died two years ago. . He then goes to the address of his father's sister, where he finds that she is not home. He tells her that he is a friend of her brother's and that he will try to find her. He also warns her that she will be killed if she does not return to her family's home. She says that she knows that her father is alive, but she is too scared to harm him. He says that he cannot fight him because he is just a shield. He goes on to say that if he were an old man, he would have a mole on the chin and he would be unable to fight yukine head-on. He adds that he wants to drag him to the people who are trying to kill him, and he says he will kill them if they do not come to his rescue.
