In this chapter, we learn that Hirohito's mother, Hiyori, has been suffering from migraines for the past 30 years. She has also been taking a lot of anti-nausea drugs, which have made her pain worse. Hiroyuki tells us that he is her "guiding light" and that if she were to become numb to her pain, she would not notice that something was wrong with her. He also tells her that she is not the only one who has suffered from migraines, and that she has been treated well by her family. He says that he will get Hiroyuki an autograph from him and pay him back the money he stole from her father. He tells Hiroyuki that he has been caring for the cherry tree for 30 years and that every year she has gotten him. He asks if he remembers anything else, but he does remember that she had gotten him the last time they saw each other. She had for gotten him every year that she last saw her, but what is he going to do now? Hiroyuki says he will see her later that night, and Hiroyuki thanks him for being so kind to him. They talk about how they will be friends for the rest of their lives, and he says that if he were to stop studying, he would not have any trouble getting the tree to bloom again.
