About This Chapter
The next morning, the newsman comes to see the family. He tells them that the house is about to be torn down. The family is happy to see him, but they're not sure if he's really theirs. The newsman asks if he knows the family's history, and the family tells him that they don't. They've lived in the same house for generations, and they've seen the same things over and over again. The only thing that's different is that the family doesn't know each other's names. So the family can't really say that they know the whole history of the house. They can only say that it's a remnant of their life there. The man says that he'd like to know more about the heavens, but he knows that it would be boring to kill all the people in the world, so he decides to break up the man into an instrument and show him the way to the heavens. He says that the man will make a great instrument, but it won't do anything good unless they kill him. He explains that his father was praying to the god he calls yato all the time, but that he never got anywhere. Now that his son is a man, maybe he has figured out what his father wants to do. He's going to make his son do something, and maybe his father hates the heavens so much that he hates it. The next day, the man comes back to tell the family that the son ran away from home, and that the landlord's wife took his daughter with her. The son ran off because his father didn't want him to be around his family anymore, and so he ran away.
