When Hiroyuki grows up, he plans to become a doctor. He tells his mother, Hiyori, that he would like to be like his father, who is a physician. He says that he wishes he could run the hospital and take care of the sick, but that his father is so amazing that he does not know how he would do that. He also says that his mother is turning into an "akashi" , or a demon, and that he will figure out a way to save her. Hiroyuki's mother tells him to stop talking about his dream of becoming a doctor, because it is not about choosing a career, but about taking responsibility for others. She says that if he keeps talking about work, he will not be able to return home. She also tells him that he should not turn Yukine away, because there is no value waiting for him in life, and he would send her away knowing what she would go through. She asks him to refrain from slandering his staff or personnel, as he is fully responsible for everything that happened.
