About This Chapter
The chapter opens with Henry's declaration that he will stay and listen to the rest of the story. He tells us that he received his treatment and that he can remember the floor of the room being soaked with mud. He says that he does laundry because it makes the room "clean" and that it makes his skin "peel off" . He also says that there was a window above his bed that he could see outside. He grabs onto the bars and sees a small garden of turnips growing in the distance. He doesn't know if they are turnips or not, but he just wants to look at them. One day, the treatment gets harsh and painful and he cannot walk for half a month. He looks outside the window and sees nothing but a small barn and a vegetable garden. He realizes that he is crying and decides to leave the room and take revenge.
