About This Chapter
Cuthbert tells James that they're sorry that he can't come with them. He's worried that he's going to get lost in the dark. James says it's okay, because he needs to find someone better than him to meet him. He thanks him for coming, and says he'll remember all the memories of this day forever. Mr. and Mrs. Bennett apologize, and James says they misread the document and sent him to a different place. He doesn't know why, but he thinks the dim light is what's keeping him from seeing well enough to do his job. He says he hopes Mr. Bennett didn't try to make him uncomfortable, because that would be a gross thing to do. He also says that he thinks he should apologize to cuthbert, because it would be like being adopted by a "brat" like him. James tells him that he needs a worker, so he can eat three meals a day and "grow tall and strong" . James welcomes him to his house, and he says that this is the "first time" in his life that he has been called a "great person" by someone else.
