In this chapter, we are introduced to the school nurse, misao, who is the main character of the novel. Misao tells us that she is the only person who knows about her past relationship with Kiley, and that she wants to take her somewhere so that they can "create more happy memories" together. She tells the reader that she was once in love with Toji, but that he "engineered their kileyasu" . When Kiley broke off his relationship with her, she was shocked to learn that his true love was misao. Kiley promised her that if he decided to get back with her he would meet her on the beach where they first fell in love. When she found out that he was her true lover, she lost her virginity and demanded that he marry her that night. She also tells him that she has a miscarriage and that he should take her to the doctor immediately. She asks him to wait for her in the girl's room so that she can get better. He tells her that he has been arguing with some other guys on the street, and she wonders if he is talking about her. He says that he did not do anything to her. She says that she feels "crushed" when she thinks about Toji. She reminds him that he is the one who knows her history with Misao. She apologizes to him for the trouble she has caused Kiley.
