The scene opens with a flashback to the events of the previous night. In this scene, we are introduced to Brooke's mother, who has just returned from a trip to the city hotel. Brooke tells her daughter-in-law that she will be waiting at the hotel for Mortimer to arrive. Brooke is shocked to learn that Mortimer has already arrived, and that he has already left a message for her. Brooke asks her mother if she has received any new messages from Mortimer, and her mother replies that she has not. Brooke wonders if Mortimer is looking at her watch, and she tells her that he is supposed to have a date with her soon. Brooke then tells her mother that she got into a fight with her boyfriend, and he apologized, but he got mad. Brooke says that she knows that Mortimer is in the hotel, and if she does not leave him alone, she will die. She tells Brooke that Mortimer was stabbed in the scuffle, and Brooke guesses that Mortimer did not want to talk to Mortimer because he was afraid of what would happen if he did. Brooke realizes that Mortimer may have been using her for her own ends, and wonders if they could get a room together.
