About This Chapter
The next morning, the two of them go for a walk, and the narrator tells the girl that he's going to have to leave town soon. The girl tells him that she doesn't want to marry him because she's afraid he'll get into trouble with his family. The narrator tells her that his parents got married when he was still in school, and that they had to go through a lot of hardship just to get married. He says that he understands her circumspect stances now. He's just feeling a little nostalgic about his childhood. He asks the girl to cook for him, and she says she'll do it soon. She's already made a bunch of food for him. The two then talk about the girl, who's leaving town to go back home to her parents. She says that the girl has been taking a big bag with her and is going to return to her family's house, which is just like the narrator's childhood home. He tells her to say good-bye to her, but she won't listen to him. He wants to know what's up, but he can't figure out what to say.
