In this chapter, we are introduced to Hiroshi, who has just returned from a trip to the seashore. Hiroshi tells us that he has come back from the seashore because he has some important business to attend to. As he is about to leave, he is interrupted by the arrival of his servant, who is also Hiroshi's friend. The servant tells him that the weather has been fine, and that he will soon be able to return home. As Hiroshi leaves, he asks the servant if he can borrow some money to pay for his return journey. When the servant replies that he cannot, the servant asks him if he would like to borrow money from his friend. He tells the servant that he does not want to do so, and the servant agrees to loan him the money.
