The chapter opens with Jim telling Viola that he owes her a month's free tuition. Viola says that she's going to take care of her own business. Jim says that he brought her a rare wine, which he says he's always wanted to drink. He says that they're going to get along well and that he'll make her happy forever. He tells her that he knows how to make himself happy and that her destiny will take her. He doesn't know what to say to her.
