Back in the present, Jim is in high school and has just met Viola. Viola's parents have just separated, and Viola is now a senior at the school. Jim asks Viola if she wants anything to drink, and she says she'll bring it for him. Jim tells Viola that he doesn't want to force himself to smile, so he'll let her relax and be herself when they're studying. Viola asks why her mom is acting like she knows him so well, and Jim tells her that he's the one who controls her allowance. He says that he already told her about his feelings before, and that the only one who won her heart first is Viola. He won't be with her, he says, because he never expected to fall for her. Viola says that she was cuter when she was younger, but now she's grown up so much that she has nothing to say.
