About This Chapter
In this chapter, the narrator tries to get the protagonist to admit that he has a problem. He tells the protagonist that he used to be an obedient kid, but that he gradually grew to hate himself because he was forced to accept his true self. The protagonist says that he hates himself for scolding himself in front of his mother, but he tries to change his ways. He compares the situation to the situation in which he andsaisai became good friends when they were in an accident. He says that the protagonist's first step was to refuse to play in the vienna and change his major. He feels that he was "that great" when he decided to do so. He thinks that this is the first step he has taken in his life, and he feels happy that he did it. He wonders if these two things will change the fate of the protagonist, too. When the protagonist receives a gift from a girl, he feels like he is being dishonest with her. He even wants to tell her, "maybe someone had beat you to the punch" . He realizes that he already rejected her, and asks why he can't let go of her. When he receives gifts from girls, he is also wondering why they didn't give him a gift when he is on his birthday. He wants to spend his birthday with the protagonist.
