About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he first met the piano player when he was just starting his junior year at school. He tells us how proud he was when he first saw him play the piano. The narrator says that he dreamed of him playing the piano again when he heard of the piano teacher's performance. He asks the teacher why he is sneaking around. The teacher tells him that he has written a letter to the student and wants to give it to him. He says that the task is to make sure that no one sees him and that he wants to live. He also tells the teacher not to let the student go out or look out of the window. If the student is afraid, the narrator says, he will be back in fifteen minutes.
