The two of them go for a fishing trip, and the bird spirit tells the boy that he still has something to learn from the book. The bird spirit also tells him that he is getting older, and that his sister is becoming more like him. The boy says that he does not want to be influenced by the people around him, and so he wants to go outside and see for himself. He hears the mermaids singing, and he finally gets to witness it. He asks if the birds are good at singing, but the girl says that she is not good at it, because it is inconvenient for her to sing in a crowded place
