About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that the wolf king gave Fang the opportunity to serve as his second son's attendant. Fang tells us that he was born as a slave to the gray wolf, so he never thought he'd have the chance to serve in this position. The wolf king decided that Fang would be the best and most reliable of all the children, so they all agreed to let him go for the job. Fang explains that there are many other people in the wolf kingdom who can teach Fang, but that Fang is the only one who will be able to do so. He explains that he'll be studying with the wolf's second son, which is a little different from other princes because he's a prince, and there's no written record of what he says and does. Fang thinks about it, thinking that although the last wolf king defeated the snow-wold clan, his son was fickle, and so it's not surprising that his son will be half-spirit. Fang calls him "rong li," or attendant, and says that he can do whatever he wants with Fang. He doesn't need to address him as prince, just as long as they cooperate and avoid wasting time. Fang is shocked that Fang can't learn to speak, and he says that Fang should find another way to serve.
