About This Chapter
This chapter opens with a discussion between the wolf and the wolf's dog, Fried Rice. Fried Rice asks the wolf if he knows that there's a "demagogue" in his body. The wolf says that his father was the first to learn about it, but he's now learned that it's dangerous and he wants to "stop" it. He asks Fried Rice if he can help him find a way to rid himself of it. The man who did the deed to Fried Rice was kind to him, but Fried Rice says that he now realizes that the man's ideas are "dangerous" and that he needs to stop him. He tells Fried Rice that he hasn't seen white deer yet, but that's because his mother was killed by a group of deer cultivators who wanted to chop off Fried Rice's antlers because he was different from the other deer spirits. The deer spirits wanted to kill Fried Rice to avenge his mother's death, but the man didn't want to apologize for his father's murder, so he killed the four deer spirits who killed his father. The two of them are still alive, and Fried Rice doesn't realize that they're also dead. He says that the day he met the wolf when he was injured made him think of something other than his hair color. He's not the only one who thought he was peculiar, he says, and he chose to save his hair so that people wouldn't think he was weird. He also says that people don't always treat him the same way. He wants to hear more from the wolf, and says he'll meet him next time.
