The chapter opens with a flashback to a time when Tommo's father was estranged from his wife. The flashback shows that Tommo and his father had a daughter who lived with Tommo. The girl went to school, and Tommo wanted to see her. When he saw her, he wanted to meet her, but he couldn't find her. He wanted to talk to her about her father, but she wouldn't talk to him, so he didn't speak to her. Tommo asks his father why he's hiding the girl's name, and he tells him that she's beautiful. He also tells his father that he'll take him to his room and show him a secret bath. He tells Tommo that the bath is like a sex museum for couples who look like they have sex, and that there are "bad guys" in the bath, too. He adds that people die in the baths, too, because it's true. He says that he doesn't want to leave Tommo alone too long, because he wants to know what's going on with his mission. He asks if there's a dog next door, and she tells him there is. He's glad he told her, because now he can't have the dog any more. He wants to tell his wife about the dog's existence, and then he can get a divorce. He then tells his wife that he saw a "dark shad" in a room where he'd been working on a novel. He wonders if this is the ghost of the famous author, who used to live in the room, and asks if he can go back to the room without being arrested.
