In this chapter, we learn that we're supposed to be psyched for the new year, but that's just not the case. We're told that the guy who wrote the first line of the novel is dead, and that he's been buried in a grave ever since. This is the first time we've heard of this guy, and we don't want to hear about it. We also learn that the novel's protagonist is a "lone wolf," meaning that he doesn't have anyone around him to talk to. He's so lonely that he can't even think of anyone to hang out with. So, he decides to start hanging out with some random people. He wants to send them a bunch of random cards to see if they'll like him, but he'll have to wait until the end of the year to do it.
