This chapter opens with a description of a public bath in a small seaside town in the northeast corner of England. It's the first time we've heard about the town, which was originally built as a tourist trap to keep watch over the giant aldoron. We learn that the town was built so that people would come to bathe in the tub, which is actually a kind of giant bathtub. This is a big deal for us, since we're so small. We're also told that the tub is filled with bubbles, which means that you can float in the water. We also learn that they've been looking for the mysterious woman, and that she's wearing a bug's-eye patch. We find out that the bug-eyed woman isn't part of the "Guild" of swarthy sea monsters, and we learn that she doesn't even belong to the guild.
