In this chapter, Dr. Jarndyce tells the story of how he came to be the god of water from dragons. He explains that he has been sent by the water dragon to seal off the five dragons, but that he is not sure if he is a good or bad guy. He tells the audience that he does not need to seal the dragon because he has come to challenge the holiness of the water god. The water dragon, he says, does not seem to be a threat to anyone. He says that he and his wife, Karameel, used to be friends, but now they have to leave the world together.
