In this chapter, the narrator tells us that his marriage to Zheofan was a happy one, but that things started to get awkward after they got married. He was afraid that his new wife would forget all about him, and so he became more and more manipulative. He wanted to ruin his wife's happiness by telling her the story of his marriage, but when he saw her, she would spend her life with him. He decides to go back to the time when he was married and tell her the whole story. When he finds out that she is there, he apologizes and thanks her for coming to his wedding. He tells her that if she keeps coming back, people will find out that he is not a good person.
