The chapter opens with a flashback to the night she slept with Zhanofzhuan, and the narrator tells us that she's not sure what to do now. She's shocked that she slept so well with a guy she doesn't even know. The narrator tells her to get up, because the guy's a "charming young man" , and she should be able to figure out how to get her ex-boyfriend to come back to her. She also tells her not to contact him after the break-up, because he'll never even think of getting back with her anyway. She then tells us about the next day, when she went to see Zhan ofzhuan again, but he didn't tell her anything. She tells the narrator to stop lying, and to stop going to see him on business trips with him. She says that she went on the business trip with him on the new year, but she was surprised to find out that she was his mistress, and that he wouldn't have married her if she hadn't showed up. She asks the narrator not to tell Zhan what happened, but the narrator says that love comes by asking for it, not by begging. If she were a man, she says, she'd make her dinner after her sweetheart, and they'd get home together.
