The narrator apologizes for not being able to visit the house the previous day. He tells the narrator that the owner suddenly had an emergency and that they couldn't visit today. The narrator thanks the owner for his kind words and tells him that he's been looking for the right house for a long time. He's also a little scared because if the house is the right one for him, he'll have no excuses to see the owner again. He goes to the bathroom to cover his face. He asks the owner why he always shows up when he was unlucky. The owner says that he dropped the shirt the day before and he picked it up the day after. He says that the shirt is a "threshold guardian" that can bring in bad luck if it's brought with him. This is a weird gift, the narrator says, because it reminds him of his own bad luck. He also tells the owner that he gave the shirt to her after hearing that she was pregnant.
