In this chapter, we learn that Ching-Shui and Ching-Tao are in the middle of a fight. Ching-Tsing asks why he is being choked by Ching-Shuo, and the latter replies that he is doing it to please everyone, and that he will do the same to Ching-Seung. Ching says that he cannot undo what he has done, but that he can only do one thing: fight. He says that if he loses now, many people will die, and he will not be able to die until he defeats Ching-Tai. He tells us that he took the medicine the day before to help him win the fight, and it seems to have worked. He also says that his energy level is rising, but his body feels heavy, like he is in clay. He explains that he has taken the medicine, too, but he thinks it is a fake one, because he feels as though he has stopped time, and his body is like clay, which is hard to move forward. He adds that he does not know if he will die now or not, but if he does, he will be unable to die for a long, long time.
