The scene opens with a flashback to a time when the Governess was a student at the Convent of the Immaculate Conception, a Catholic school in New York City. The Governess is in high school, and she has just kissed a girl. She tells the girl that she would never do such a thing with a child. The girl blushes and says that she forgot to tell her that she had kissed someone else. She apologizes, saying that she will do it again in the upcoming school year. She says that the summer break is coming up and she wants the girl to make sure that she forgets about the kiss with the other girl.
