The scene opens with a flashback to the night of the first meeting between the Governess and her Governess's son. The Governess asks her son-in-law if he and his wife were playing together, and the boy replies that they were, but that he was afraid to tell his father that he loved him. He then asks his father why he would do such a thing, and his father replies that he would never do anything like that, because he is afraid of the people in the world. He also says that he hates his wife, because she is the one he detests the most, and that she is his only friend in the whole world. As he is about to leave, he hears his mother's voice, and he realizes that he has been tormented by his father. He tells his mother that he is ready to "re-venge" his father, who he says is both "stupid and naive" . He says that it was easy for him to trick his father because he knew that his wife was working in the next room, and because he was so pathetic that he could not stop fucking the time.
