About This Chapter
At it's late for love, the narrator says, and he's ready to give up. He wants to be alone with someone for a little while, and then he'll go back to being a normal person. He tells the girl to come by his place and stay for a bit. He'll make sure she's at home before he leaves. The girl says she'll be back soon, and the narrator asks if she has asthma, and she says she does. The narrator says she doesn't have any, and they walk for a while. They talk about how cold it is outside, and how they have to get up early the next morning to go to work. He says he wants to go home early, and refresh himself before going to work the next day. He asks the girl if she'd like some tea. She says she would like some, but she can't bring herself to bring up her asthma. She's sad that she has to return to the real world, she says. She wants to know if all her hard work is useful to anyone, and if all this work amounts to anything. She asks if all of this hard work will amount to anything, and is she being useful, or is she just being useful to herself? The girl asks if he wants her to wake up early in the morning tomorrow, so they can get some fresh air, and get ready to go work. She tells him she has a meeting that morning, too, so she
