In this short scene, the young narrator is overcome with emotion at the sight of Hiroyuki's "gen tle faced" face. He is so touched by the sight that he cannot bear to leave the scene. He tells Hiroyuki that he has found a way to express his love for him in such a way as to make him feel as though he is a "burden" on his neck. Hiroyuki replies that he does not want to be "a burden" to his friend, but that he wants to know more of his friend. The two begin to talk about love, and Hiroyuki says that he feels as if he is an adult when he is in love with another person. He feels that he is "old enough" to know that his love is his, and he is glad to be old enough to be in love.
