He says that he'd like to change his style of writing if he could, but that he can't because he has a "complete defeatist mentality" , which means that he won't change if he has to. So, Tommo says, he wants to change the way he looks and acts, so that his life will be swept away from him. He asks Tommo if they can make an order, and when he says yes, he says he wanted to distract himself. He thanks him for the order, but when he gets to the table, he realizes that he has no idea what he was getting for. He apologizes for being so excited, and thanks Tommo for the food.
