In this short scene, Wuji tells the old man that he has cast upon him the "phantom essence" that has been refining him for 36 years. Within three days, he says, his soul will be "taken out of flesh" . Wuji says that if he pleases, he could give him the antidote, but if he refuses, he will kill him just like the villagers. The old man says that he dares to kill himself, but he doesn't think he will be able to do so easily. He says that the more essence he funnels, the more the essence spreads throughout his body, and that the poison takes effect. He asks Wuji if he can give the antidote to him as long as he gives him the General's order. The elder gongsun says that it is up to him whether or not he can acquire the antidote.
