The narrator tells us that there is no such thing as "ghosts in the world" and that "there's no fear of ghosts" in the real world. When the narrator returns home, he finds that his mother has made him a dish to eat. The dish has been sitting on the table for a long time, and now that the rain has stopped, it's time for him to eat some meat. He's been waiting for his grandpa to come back and give him the meat, but he hasn't come back yet. He asks about the pendant around his neck, which is the only thing his parents have given him.
