This chapter opens with a description of a "demon-killer" taoist who gave a charm to Ling-feng. The charm was supposed to make the herb-king's valley recognize the "demon killer" as soon as Ling showed it to him. Ling-Feng is still confused about the charm and wonders if the old man is a liar. He is also confused by the fact that the elder wang-ying has never seen a charm like the one he gave him. The elder claims that the tao-killer is always a mystery and that he will introduce the young man to his elder when he returns. The young man thanks the elder and says that he has been asked by the devils to deliver a message. He asks the elder about the whereabouts of shaoyu, and the elder replies that he is not currently in the Celestial City. He says that the friendship between the two men is great and that they have met before. He also says that lin feng has already met the elder, and that it is now confirmed that he had met him before.
