The chapter opens with the young boy, jie, wondering if it's safe to say that his parents are back together. He's worried that other men will fall in love with his mommy, so he's determined to prevent it from happening. He hears that his mommy has returned with a child, and that her husband, jian mo, has also returned. He also hears that she's had another child, which makes him even more worried about his parents' return. The narrator tells jie that he looks like an abandoned husband now, even though he was married for five years after he left his first wife . He doesn't care if his parents come back soon, but he'll be happy to have his grandson. He asks if his grandparents approve of his parents coming back, but the narrator tells him that they're not the major issue. He says that he hopes that jin mo will soon have a baby, but that he won't let that happen. He then asks if the narrator can have dinner with him tonight, and the narrator says he can't because he has to pay off a debt. He promises to come pick him up at ten o'clock.
