At the beginning of this chapter, the narrator tells us that he and Ching-Lin are going to work together to build the villa. He tells her that he's going to be busy, so he needs to work on it first. He asks her to come to his office to look at it. He also asks her if she'll be able to go to a nearby lake in order to get some more inspiration for the villa design. He says he'll pick her up and take her there in the rain, but he warns her to be careful, as it's a wet day. The narrator then tells us about his plan. He's planning to lead her to the lake and show her the finished product. He wants her to fall in love with the villa, too, and he wants to show her step-by-step how to build it. She's happy, he says, because she's his wife, and she can do whatever she wants with him. She tells him that she just saw him change her shoes for her, and it makes her feel weird. She doesn't know why, but she thinks that he was just trying to distract her. She says that she likes him more now that she asked him to talk to her about the design, because he knows more about her than she does.
